The Canterville Ghost is a popular 1887 novella by Oscar Wilde, widely adapted for the screen and stage.
“The Canterville Ghost” is a parody featuring a dramatic spirit named Sir Simon and the United States minister (ambassador) (More) to the Court of St. James’s, Hiram B. Otis. Mr. Otis travels to England with his family and moves into a haunted country house. Lord Canterville, the previous owner of the house, warns Mr. Otis that the ghost of Sir Simon de Canterville has haunted it ever since he killed his wife, Eleonore, three centuries before. But Mr. Otis dismisses the ghost story as bunk and disregards Lord Canterville’s warnings. When the Otises learn that the house is indeed haunted, they succeed in victimizing the ghost and in disregarding age-old British traditions. What emerges is a satire of American materialism, a lampoon of traditional British values, and an amusing twist on the traditional gothic horror tale.

A nightingale overhears a student complaining that his professor’s daughter will not dance with him, as he is unable to give her a red rose. The nightingale visits all the rose-trees in the garden, and one of the white roses tell (More) her that there’s a way to produce a red rose, but only if the nightingale is prepared to sing the sweetest song for the rose all night, and sacrifice her life to do so. Seeing the student in tears, the nightingale carries out the ritual, and impales herself on the rose-tree’s thorn so that her heart’s blood can stain the rose. The student takes the rose to the professor’s daughter, but she again rejects him because another man has sent her some real jewels, and “everybody knows that jewels cost far more than flowers.” The student angrily throws the rose into the gutter, returns to his study of metaphysics, and decides not to believe in true love anymore.

The novel tells of a young man named Dorian Gray, the subject of a painting by artist Basil Hallward. Basil is impressed by Dorian’s beauty and becomes infatuated with him, believing his beauty is responsible for a new mode in his (More) art. Dorian meets Lord Henry Wotton, a friend of Basil’s, and becomes enthralled by Lord Henry’s world view. Espousing a new hedonism, Lord Henry suggests the only things worth pursuing in life are beauty and fulfillment of the senses. Realizing that one day his beauty will fade, Dorian expresses his desire to sell his soul to ensure the portrait Basil has painted would age rather than himself. Dorian’s wish is fulfilled, plunging him into debauched acts. The portrait serves as a reminder of the effect each act has upon his soul, with each sin displayed as a disfigurement of his form, or through a sign of aging.

La novela cuenta la historia de un joven llamado Dorian Gray, retratado por el artista Basilio Hallward, quien queda enormemente impresionado por la belleza física de Dorian y comienza a encapricharse con él, creyendo que esta (More) belleza es la responsable de la nueva forma de su arte. Pero el Sr. Otis desoye sus advertencias.
Así, la familia americana de mister Hiriam B. habitan en la mansión, burlándose constantemente del fantasma debido a la indiferencia de estos ante los sucesos paranormales.

The Happy Prince and Other Tales (sometimes called The Happy Prince and Other Stories) is a collection of stories for children by Oscar Wilde first published in May 1888. It contains five stories, “The Happy Prince”, “The (More) Nightingale and the Rose”, “The Selfish Giant”, “The Devoted Friend”, and “The Remarkable Rocket”. It is most famous for its title story, “The Happy Prince”.

«El príncipe feliz» es un cuento de hadas escrito por el poeta, escritor y dramaturgo irlandés Oscar Wilde. Fue publicado por primera vez en El príncipe feliz y otros cuentos junto a otros cuatro cuentos del autor en 1888.
El (More) protagonista de la historia es la estatua dorada de un príncipe llena de valiosos adornos, que se encuentra en lo alto de una columna desde donde puede ver toda la ciudad; y una golondrina, que ha retrasado su migración a Egipto por haberse enamorado de un junco. La golondrina se posa sobre la estatua y ve que el príncipe está llorando a causa de las injusticias que puede observar desde su posición, pues cuando vivía siempre le hicieron creer que todo el mundo era feliz y le habían ocultado que también había gente que tenía problemas, y ahora desde allí arriba podía ver la triste realidad, realidad que es confirmada por la golondrina de la cual se hace gran amigo de ella día a día, pues le ayudara en su misión de ir ayudar a los más necesitados. Entonces le pide a la golondrina que arranque y entregue a los más necesitados las joyas que le adornan.
