Alexandre Dumas, born Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie, also known as (More) Alexandre Dumas, père, was a French writer, best known for his historical novels of high adventure. Translated into nearly 100 languages, these have made him one of the most widely read French authors in history. Many of his novels, including The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, Twenty Years After, and The Vicomte de Bragelonne: Ten Years Later were originally published as serials. Prolific in several genres, Dumas began his career by writing plays, which were successfully produced from the first. He also wrote numerous magazine articles and travel books; his published works totaled 100,000 pages. In the 1840s, Dumas founded the Théâtre Historique in Paris.

El conde de Montecristo (Le comte de Monte-Cristo) es una novela de aventuras clásica de Alexandre Dumas padre y Auguste Maquet. Éste último no figuró en los títulos de la obra ya que Alexandre Dumas pagó una elevada suma de (More) dinero para que así fuera. Maquet era un colaborador muy activo en las novelas de Dumas, llegó a escribir obras enteras que Dumas reescribió más tarde. Esta obra se suele considerar como el mejor trabajo de Dumas, y a menudo se incluye en las listas de las mejores novelas de todos los tiempos. El libro se terminó de escribir en 1844, y fue publicado en una serie de 18 partes durante los dos años siguientes.

The Count of Monte Cristo (French: Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) is an adventure novel by French author Alexandre Dumas (père) completed in 1844. It is one of the author’s most popular works, along with The Three Musketeers.
The story (More) takes place in France, Italy and islands in the Mediterranean during the historical events of 1815–1838. It begins from just before the Hundred Days period (when Napoleon returned to power after his exile) and spans through to the reign of Louis-Philippe of France. The historical setting is a fundamental element of the book.

The Three Musketeers (Les Trois Mousquetaires) is a novel by Alexandre Dumas, père. It recounts the adventures of a young man named d’Artagnan after he leaves home to become a musketeer. D’Artagnan is not one of the musketeers of (More) the title; those are his friends Athos, Porthos, and Aramis — inseparable friends who live by the motto, “One for all, and all for one”.
The Three Musketeers was first published in serial form in the magazine Le Siècle between March and July 1844. Dumas claimed it was based on manuscripts he had discovered in the Bibliothèque Nationale. It was later proven that Dumas had based his work on the book Mémoires de Monsieur D’Artagnan, capitaine lieutenant de la première compagnie des Mousquetaires du Roi
