En ellos, Solzhenitsyn escribe sobre la falta de libertad, sobre la desesperanza de vivir en un régimen que controla a cada ciudadano y donde la desobediencia puede ser castigada con la muerte. Pero también en ellos hay esperanza. Un amor por la naturaleza y una reivindicación del espíritu humano, capaz de sobreponerse y triunfar sobre grandes adversidades.
