Fahrenheit 451 es una novela distópica, publicada en 1953 por el escritor estadounidense Ray Bradbury. El título hace referencia a la temperatura en la escala de Fahrenheit (°F) a la que el papel de los libros se inflama y arde, equivalente a 233 ºC.
Montag es un bombero. En la sociedad imaginada por la novela, de carácter distópico, los bomberos tienen la misión de quemar libros ya que, según el gobierno, leer impide ser felices porque llena de angustia; al leer, los hombres empiezan a ser diferentes cuando deben ser iguales, lo que es el objetivo del gobierno, que vela por que los ciudadanos sean felices para que así no cuestionen sus acciones y los ciudadanos rindan en sus labores.
