Una investigación de la Universidad norteamericana de Standford ha recopilado cronológicamente, y por primera vez, los 197 relatos que Jack London escribió a lo largo de su vida, cinco de ellos inéditos hasta este momento y otros veintiocho aparecidos exclusivamente en revistas y nunca publicados anteriormente en libro.

En total son casi 3.000 páginas divididas en tres tomos. El primero, que comprende los 87 cuentos escritos por el gran autor norteamericano entre 1893 y 1902, aparece ahora coincidiendo con el primer centenario de la muerte de London (1876-1916) en traducción de Susana Carral realizada expresamente para esta edición. En estos relatos de adolescencia y juventud, London da cuenta de su experiencia juvenil cuando, a los diecisiete años, se embarcó como marinero rumbo a Japón en la goleta Sophia Sutherland, aunque paulatinamente da paso a los gélidos paisajes helados del río Klondike, donde buscó oro junto a su cuñado James Shepard y contempló de cerca la muerte blanca escondida entre el hielo.
